This weekend was WAAAY to long...and not in a good way.
Left work Friday, flew to Michigan because my grandfather has been in the hospital.  Shared a fold out couch with a pit in the middle awoke at 5 am to my grandmother clanking in the kitchen. awoke at 7:30 to my dad clanking in the same room as me same at 8 and 8:15 and 8:30.  checked work e-mail (BIG MISTAKE) and found out I have about a weeks worth of work due Monday at 11 am (well that's not happening). Spend the day at the hospital.  Woke up early to visit the hospital and return to the airport where I start doing work.

On the plus side my grandfather is feeling better as evidenced by
a)asking why I don't have a boyfriend
b)supplying the quote "make sure he always has the last words in an argument. They are 'yes dear'"

and I bought tickets to see Gaelic Storm next weekend

Be glad I don't have twitter or you would all be getting occasional updates on the color of my snot as this cold develops.

(for those interested through the course of the day it has gone from clear to neon yellowish green...actually I have a shirt and pair of pants that match it... )

I am soooo glad I wasn't in DC this past weekend.  Getting home from the airport Tuesday night was enough of a crowd for me!

Instead I had a low key and generally good weekend in Boston.  I hung out with many awesome people but didn't have the stress of needing to be anywhere at a particular time.  I also met up with my Mom, who decided that since I now live 9+ hours away, it's irresistable to come see me when I am an hour away.  I also ate lots of Crepes...mmmm crepes.

The other part of this trip, besides seeing wonderful people, is that I realized that DC has become my hometown...at least for now.  I like the Metro better than the T, I like the area I'm living in better than the area I think I would end up living in in Boston (though I've really only explored the one, so we'd have to see about other areas).  I like Boston, I could see myself being there are some point.  But I'm happy where I am for a while.

I had a wonderful night last night, despite it not starting out that way.  I had made plans to have dinner with mike, I called him after work, and it turns out he had forgotten and made other plans...ish...his other plans were going to a happy hour thing to look at pretty girls...::grumble grumble:: anyways I get home and Rachel and I went to the store and got Berries, and lots of them, 4 for $6...so exciting, as well as apple cider and things she needed for a dinner party.  We got back and made pomegranite blackberry lemonade martinis...as in we mashed up pomegranite seeds and blackberries, mixed with Vodka and then used lemonade as a mixer....it was AWESOME!  Mike left his thing and seemed to feel guilty so he gave me a call and came over and I hit him with my boy beater (egg beater shaped like a boy...but the tag said boy beater...so it gets used as such).  It was a fun night...and I just ate an entire thing of blackberries, and it was FABULOUS!

So for those of you who didn't know, I have now moved.  and it is AWESOME! I really like the new apartment, and think it is a much better living situation in general.

So now instead of living on the Orange line in Virginia, I live right by the Woodley Park metro stop (just over the bridge in adams morgan)

Really bad pun!! )

I thought I had more to say...aparently  not...

I feel so powerful...I can now install an operating system on a computer, and think I have figured out why my sister's old computer keeps crashing...and to fix it all I need is two screws...but just for fun I think I'll install new memory and a new harddrive....I like this plan...plus I can hear the old harddrive whirring loudly.....now if only I could get wireless to work...anyone know how to download and install network manager (or similar program) in ubuntu...and can you explain it in english...everything I'm finding online is in technicalese...and I don't understand it...

specifically from here
"Installing Wicd in Ubuntu is very simple. You just have to add the Wicd repository to the Ubuntu package manager. To open the package manager in Gnome, go to Administration > Synaptic Package Manager. When it appears, go to Settings > Repositories > Third Party Software > Add..., and enter the following line:
deb http://apt.wicd.net hardy extras
where gutsy is your version of Ubuntu in lowercase (dapper, edgy, feisty, gutsy, hardy, intrepid). You'll also need to add the key used for signing Wicd by running the following command in a terminal:

=> what do they mean "in a terminal"  obviously this is as far as I have gotten...I think I've figured out at least what theoretically the rest should be
wget -q http://apt.wicd.net/wicd.gpg -O- | sudo apt-key add -
Now, click Reload, and wait while the package lists are downloaded. Now, search for "Wicd", and right click on it. Select Install, then press Apply, and Wicd will automatically be downloaded and installed for you. This will also keep you automatically up to date with the latest and greatest version of Wicd. Please note that this will remove network-manager, which is the default GNOME network manager and may cause loss of network connection temporarily."

I have just had the most wonderful morning!   I woke up later than planned because while I changed and checked the time on my alarm...I had failed to actually turn it on.  This ended up being ok because i woke up at the time I usually get up anyways (yay internal clock!!!)  So I left my house about 8:15  Then I went to the mechanic where I picked my car up (a check engine light had been on)  I decided to drive to work rather than drop my car off at home and then walk to the metro.  I missed my exit because i spaced out, so I got off the highway and turned around, now I couldn|T just get back on the highway because of HOV lanes, so I navigated towards work using my knowledge of the area and my good sense of direction.  THen I start to hear a sound like rocks in a can that is being shook, so I think...ok I"ll call the mechanic when I get to work.  Well then it turns to a squealing noise...so I decide to pull over...then I stop the car, and then it won"t start again.  Then I go to get my cell phone to call AAA.   Guess what I left at home this morning!!!   My Cell Phone!!!

I just made it into work.....it's noon!

So an interesting thought to consider....you're a recent college grad, looking for a job, but the economy sucks and noone seems to be hiring...oh look, it's an election year...I know who's hiring.  (noticing many former classmates listing work on facebook as campaign staff)

This was quite the adventurous weekend!!!   Yesterday I went to help my sister get a computer.  Then today I went to IKEA with Chris and Jackie to get Chris a dresser....my car was slightly too small for the boxes and 3 people....but me made it work by taking things out of the box.  Then we went apple picking.   The orchard didn't smell right.  Now I had apples at home.  I wanted to see people and smell the orchard.  So I was very disappointed when instead of the fall apples and orchard smells that I am used to...I was surrounded by rotting apples....even when I picked an apple and sniffed it it didn't smell right...I was very disappointed...so I believe that this now necessitates a trip to Lyman's over homecoming weekend.

Everyone made fun of me for being so disappointed about the smell...

went shopping after work today with a co-worker.  I have been on the lookout for work shirts, as I have a tough time finding them.....too low cut, makes me look very round....pillowcase shaped...etc... Generally women's clothing doesn't seem to be made to deal with breasts, so I expected to spend most of the trip finding cute things and then cursing my breasts.   Well, it turns out....Anthropologie is AMAZING!   so I got 3 kind of funky shirts that fit!!! I mean for work I need to wear a tank top under them...but they'Re perfect for going out in as is!!!!      woohoo finally someplace I can look forward to trying on clothes!!!

I got tired of doing sudoku puzzles...so then I started developing an excel spreadsheet to help solve them...then I realized it would only let me imbed 7 if statements...I needed at least 9...so now I'm working on other ways to create a sudoku solver...and fyi...half the fun of this is coming up with it...it's not about solving the sudoku puzzles...it's all about the process

Sometimes I think I need to give myself more credit.  I am awkward and uncomfortable around large groups of people, but I think what I've figured out is that I am a very social person, I'm just not very outgoing.  This past week or two has been awesome.  I've met a lot of people and gotten to know their friends and made plans with friends of friends and organized social events.  I've never done that before...I astound myself at times.

But damn can I be awkard.
